President Donald J. Trump signed the VA Mission Act this afternoon, “paving the way for a major overhaul of the Department of Veterans Affairs and expanded access for veterans to VA-funded care in the private sector,” Donovan Slack reports for USA Today.
“The measure, which passed both chambers of Congress last month with overwhelming bipartisan support, delivers on a key campaign promise for Trump, who pledged to provide veterans with more non-VA health care choices.” Click here to read more.

“President Trump and the first lady visited FEMA headquarters on Wednesday where they received a briefing on the 2018 hurricane season,” CBS News reports. The President described his Administration's objective as “maximum preparation for rapid response” to severe weather as the calendar turns to summer.

In The Wall Street Journal, Eric Morath writes that “for the first time since such record-keeping began in 2000, the number of available positions exceeded the number of job seekers,” according to the Labor Department. Morath adds that “the market is opening up possibilities for those who have struggled in recent years.”

In the Washington Examiner, Tony Shaffer writes that with the President signing the VA Mission Act, “we are finally on the path of positive change for veterans – another promise made and kept by President Trump.” Shaffer notes that the President “has over the past 18 months created conditions for real change and real success.”

“U.S. Steel said Tuesday it will hire about 300 employees as it restarts a second blast furnace at its Granite City, Ill. plant near St. Louis,” Len Boselovic reports for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “The Pittsburgh steel producer said the 25 percent tariffs on steel imports imposed by President Donald Trump were a factor in its decision.”
